USES:
Ceftriaxone is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections in different parts of the body and
is also given before certain types of surgery to prevent infections. This medication belongs to a
class of drugs known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
Sulbactam is a ß-lactamase inhibitor and is given in combination with ß-lactam antibiotics to inhibit
ß-lactamase, an enzyme produced by bacteria that destroys the antibiotics
The potential combination of ceftriaxone and sulbactam, in the ratio of 2 :1 has better bactericidal
properties and reduces the probability of resistance development.
